About the Role

The position entails overseeing and completing a diverse range of assignments related to construction, fit-out, thermal modelling, renovation, and maintenance of high availability data centers, as well as the network and server hardware, and facilities.

The Data Center Engineer will be responsible for performing a wide range of professional facilities engineer tasks at a fully operational level. They will be required to exercise considerable independent judgment in making decisions that can have a significant impact on services.

Responsibilities

Duties & Accountabilities


  • Conduct preliminary surveys and prepare schematic, preliminary, and work drawings.

  • Assist in project needs and cost estimates, identify opportunities, and define labor, materials, and equipment for projects valued at $100,000 US or less.

  • Conduct periodic inspections of work in progress and provide guidance to construction, datacenter technicians, supervisors, and contractors regarding interpretation of plans, specifications, timelines, and budget.

  • Evaluate and make recommendations concerning changes and scope in building and deployment work endeavors.

  • Inspect materials, workmanship, and architectural, mechanical, and electrical installations.

  • Review and approve shop drawing and “as-builts” provided by contractors and vendors.

  • Manage external preventative maintenance resources.

  • Consult with architects, engineers, contractors, clients and owners regarding preliminary layouts construction procedures and applicable construction codes.

  • Discuss plans, specifications, and work schedules with contractors as the first line of defense.

  • Resolve problems associated with daily operations, inspect existing facilities to assess their condition, and prepare reports detailing observed deficiencies, repair designs, and estimated repair costs.

  • Drive all preventative maintenance and site safety controls for contractors in facility.

  • Document and record all correspondence and documentation related to facility support and preventative maintenance.


  Job Qualifications


  • Proficient knowledge of engineering principles, codes, and standards relevant to structures and facilities.

  • Well-informed and up to date with materials, methods and techniques used in construction, installation, and maintenance of facilities.

  • Skilled in utilizing engineering instruments and tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications.

  • Proficient in maintaining records and preparing reports and correspondence related to assignments.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with others.

  • Capable of organizing and coordinating the work of others.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate work efficiently.
