Our data centres have been reimagined and engineered to leverage highly efficient liquid cooling that run using highly mechanical systems and processes. As a Mechanical Engineer you will work directly with the Director – Data Centre Infrastructure to design and implement Data Centre infrastructure with a focus on performance, scalability, efficiency, and reliability.


You will innovate, design, engineer and manage the mechanical scope of new Data Centre projects and business initiatives (design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, deployment, commissioning and operations) and you will also research, test, innovate, design, develop, engineer, iterate and improve the mechanical scope of existing Data Centre infrastructure as our company grows and evolves.

Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, engineer and manage the mechanical scope of data centre and cloud computing infrastructure projects, working closely with our engineering and executive teams as well as third party vendors across North America, Europe and Asia.

  • Design, engineer, test, research, iterate, innovate and improve the mechanical scope of our existing data centres and cloud computing infrastructure as well as data centre and cloud computing infrastructure projects. Including: Coolers, Pumps & Fans; Valving and piping design and manufacturing; Racks/Tanks design and manufacturing; Dielectric fluids/coolants design & fluid dynamics; Compute chassis formfactor design and configuration; Instrumentation and measures

  • Work closely with the Operations team to develop a robust Management of Change (MOC) process from an operations engineering perspective and support the development of Safe Operating Procedures (SOP) for maintenance.

  • Work closely with the Operations team to develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program and support the future development of an AI/ML enabled predictive maintenance program. Create and maintain comprehensive maintenance and operations documentation. Measure operational and maintenance performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.

  • Work closely with the engineering team to develop project scopes and objectives ensuring technical feasibility and involving all relevant stakeholders.

  • Work closely with the engineering team to develop project plans and schedules and align/coordinate internal and vendor resources to assure smooth project execution, communicating lessons learned to iterate and improve the designs based on operational experience.

  • Work closely with the engineering team to monitor and stewardship of project budgets, conduct risk analysis and develop mitigation plans that meet financial objectives.

  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to communicate clear and accurate project information and tracked progress, ensuring project scope and timelines are being met, and milestones are being achieved.

  • Work closely with the engineering team to measure, present and communicate to our internal teams, as well as third party vendors, current project progress and performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques

  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University or post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years Mechanical Engineering experience in any of the following: Datacenter Build or Operations; Cooling, Water or Air Handling Systems; Commercial Computer / IT / Network Systems; Mechanical Engineering (EPCM)

  • Experience with and/or a strong understanding of scientific theory, principles and practices around cooling equipment using liquid mediums (liquid cooling)

  • Carry out assignments related to engineering or scientific theory, principles and practices

  • Produce / review high quality project designs including drawings & documentation

  • Build manufacturing and installation specifications for mechanical equipment and its field installation and for use in data centre facilities

  • Participate in testing and field verification and ability to work remotely and travel to site as needed

  • Experience with project management software

  • Experience with Office 365 suite of programs

  • Excellent communicator and presenter of project-based information

  • Well organized

  • Provide informal mentorship and support to other team members


PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience with Zoho One, Zoho Project, MS Projects

  • Experience working in cloud services or high performance computing services

  • Experience working with PaaS, SaaS or IaaS platforms or technology-based businesses

  • Experience working with data centre and cloud services infrastructure including liquid immersion cooling and related mechanical

  • Experience working with commercial computer, IT, communications, or network systems

  • Strong understanding and fundamental skills in data centres, general computing and cloud computing services.
